In conjunction with the ICA’s current exhibition Sense of Self, the ICA is collaborating with the LGBTQ+ Youth Space, a community drop-in center and mental health program for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults ages 13-25 in Santa Clara County.
Sense of Self features artists who explore themes around identity, including race, queer identity, gender expression, and cultural lineage. The exhibition celebrates the power of contemporary photographic portraiture to spark empathy, break down barriers, and subvert assumptions. To extend the discussion of LGBTQ+ identities in this exhibition, the ICA is partnering with the San Jose LGBTQ Youth Space. The ICA’s Off Center Gallery features an exhibition, resources, and hands-on projects organized by LGBTQ Youth Space interns. March 6th First Friday will be co-hosted by the LGBTQ Youth Space and will feature performances, activities, and workshops around topics of identity, representation, and empowerment.
The LGBTQ Youth Space collaboration is supported by the Fleishhacker Foundation and SVCreates, in partnership with the County of Santa Clara.
