Pobladores Night Market: Tie-Dye Workshop

May 22, 2024 by Tachiya Bryant

Tie-Dye Workshop

May 30, 2024 from 5-8 p.m.

Join ICA at Parque de Pobladores to celebrate the first night market of the year. We will be hosting a tie-dye workshop in the eastern region of the Parque.  Participants will learn techniques to create one-of-a-kind T-shirts to take home. Guests are also encouraged to bring any fabric they want to use in the workshop. This class will be facilitated by ICA Facilities and Operations Manager, and local artist, Sam Marks.

About Sam Marks

Sam Marks received a BFA in Printmaking from the Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) in 2019. Since then, Sam has created four mixed-media series, Anxiety Avenue, The Quarantine Series, The Timespent Show (ongoing), and InToon (ongoing). His work has been shown in several juried exhibitions, including The Bowery Gallery and Prince Street Gallery in New York City as well as Arc Gallery and Studios in San Francisco and the Institute for Contemporary Art in San Jose. His first solo exhibition of The Quarantine Series took place at the Pacific Art League in Palo Alto, California.

Currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sam focuses on his studio practice while also working as the Facilities and Operations Manager for the Institute of Contemporary Art San José, where he is responsible for the installation and maintenance of all exhibited artwork. Sam also coordinates the Youth and Teen Open Studios program at the Pacific Art League and instructs weekly art classes for at-risk and foster youth for the Bill Wilson Center.
