David Pace, a deeply cherished Bay Area supporter of the arts and an incredibly beloved ICA Board Member, passed away on October 22, 2020. David has been a driving force in the history and success of the Institute of Contemporary Art San José and his warm, good-natured presence will be sorely missed but never forgotten by all those whose lives David touched.

In honor of David’s decades long philanthropic, personal, and professional dedication to the Institute of Contemporary Art San José, the David Pace Legacy Fund has been created to support the dedication of the David Pace Gallery at the ICA.

About the David Pace Gallery at the ICA San José
In honor of David’s impact and dedication to the ICA, the Board of Trustees has committed to renaming an exhibition space in David’s memory. Formerly known as the Off-Center Gallery, the former Print-Making space at the ICA will be refinished into a beautiful exhibitions Gallery. This will be the only gallery at the ICA with no natural light, making it ideal for the display of all photographs, works on paper, and new media, befitting David’s own art making practice. This gallery will be fitted with a lighting system enabling the display of works across all media. The remodeling of this gallery will allow the David Pace Gallery to hold discrete exhibitions of ambitious contemporary projects while also offering much needed additional space for larger, multi-gallery exhibitions.

The David Pace Legacy Fund
Led by the Board of Directors of the ICA San José, the newly established David Pace Legacy Fund enabled the ICA to complete the renovations to the David Pace Gallery. Additionally, this fund honors David’s commitment and unwavering support to the ICA by building on his legacy of making the future of the ICA’s artist and exhibitions program possible.
