ICA Live! Scott Tooby: Sonic Mirror
Friday, February 2, 2018 8-10pm
For ICA Live! in February, Scott Tooby will present his Sonic Mirror instruments throughout the ICA and ask for audience participation to activate them.
These electronic instruments automatically generate musical soundscapes from the sounds of its environment. Through the combination of generative audio software, and embeddable digital audio and computing technology, Sonic Mirrors create interactive and immersive experiences that aim to heighten human awareness and engagement with the sounds of our surroundings. Come by the ICA to play with the instruments and immerse yourself in the soundscape.
Tooby is a graduate of the Digital Arts and New Media MFA program at UC Santa Cruz, where he was involved with interdisciplinary art-science and robotic engineering research. Previously, he received a BA in Music Composition at UC Santa Barbara, then lived in Los Angeles where he wore different hats as an audio editor, sound designer, and composer in the film, game, and new media industries. He is based in Oakland and Santa Cruz, CA.
